Getting your home ready for those colder months ahead.

REPLACE OLD DOOR SWEEPS

Fall and winter weather can cost you a bundle heating your home. Changing out a damaged door sweep can save you a ton of money and will help reduce the amount of air drafting into your home from under your door. This little improvement is very easy to do and it will keep your heat in and the cold out.

WEATHER STRIPPING

Check your windows and doors for flat, old and rough looking weather

stripping. This can lead to air getting into your home causing an unwanted draft. Purchase a roll of weather stripping from a local hardware store, remove to old weather stripping and replace it with new stripping. It's that simple and your money will stay in the bank.

FIREPLACE AND CHIMNEY CLEANING

During the cooler months of Fall most folks use the their trusty fireplace to heat the ole homestead and cut back on the use of central air in order to save money on heating costs. This is a great idea and adds a festive touch to the season.

Make sure that the flue of your fireplace is in working order and that your chimney has been properly cleaned. This can help to reduce the risk of a house fire and keep you and your family safe. Having a Professional Chimney Sweep pay a visit to your home and inspect your fireplace is a sure fire way to get things smoking.

CHANGE YOU AIR FILTERS

It's considered good practice to change your home's air filter when the seasons change. This will help your heating and cooling system in your home to breath better and reduce the amount of run time needed to heat or cool your home and will help you and your family members breath better as well. You may need to change your filters more in Spring and Summer to help with removing pollen from the air that you breath.

CLEAN YOUR GUTTERS

Keeping the gutters on your home clean will allow rain, snow and ice to drain properly reducing unwanted damage to the roof of your home and help to decrease the risk of having a leaking roof.

We suggest cleaning your gutters about once every 4 to 6 months.

OUTSIDE FAUCETS

Draining your outside faucets and placing insulated covers over them will prevent water pipes in your home from freezing up and bursting.

This is a very important prep and will help you to avoid a visit from your friendly local Plumber.

WATER FOUNTAINS AND LAWN DECOR

Remember to empty the water from your bird baths and water fountains. This will help to prevent cold weather damage to your outside decor. After draining the water from these items, don't forget to place a cover over them.

If the item happens to have an odd shape then we recommend using a heavy painter's drop cloth and wrapping a rope or cord around the bottom to secure your cover.

This is also a great time to remove and store lawn chairs in the garage and cover outside tables, benches and other important items.

We hope that these simple tips will help you to ready your home for the cold months ahead and save you money.
