The only survival skill that you will not live without no matter how much you already know about sur

Campers, Backpackers, Hikers and well trained wilderness experts sometimes get relaxed in their ways and quit trying to learn new and more advanced skills of survival that could even the odds in their favor when the going gets tough.

They often believe that repeating the same ole survival drills over and over again, will be the only set of skills that they will ever need. Sometimes this problem can become sort of a disease, spreading not only throughout their survival skills but also into their survival gear. This often leaves them open for disaster to strike and let's face it; it's not a matter of if a disaster will strike but when and in most cases of survival it is the leading known cause of death in the great outdoors next to death from wild animal attacks.

Mastering the basic skills for wilderness survival is a must for anyone willing to venture into the great unknown of mother natures endless beauty. Most naturists believe that once these skills have been burnt into memory that nothing else matters. WRONG!

Okay, so you can collect a source of water or you know how to find food.

Maybe you can even build a small shelter but what does any of that matter without the most important basic survival skill of them all? Fire.

Since prehistoric times when large reptiles roamed the planet and mankind lived in caves, fire has been the only and most important survival skill to have in your arsenal and one of the toughest of skills to master. Making fire is the only survival skill that matters the most above all others and should never be taken lightly. No pun intended. That water source that you discovered along the way isn't something that you should drink without first killing the germs and bacteria that live inside of it . Having a fire will let you boil the water and make it clean of these parasites allowing you to drink it and clean wounds. Cooking is something that can only be accomplished by the use of fire. Heating a shelter with fire will prevent hypothermia and as an added bonus boost moral.

Q. "Should I pack more than one method of starting a fire in my backpack or will it just weigh me down?"

A. We suggest packing two or maybe even three methods of creating fire into you backpack. It's better to have more than enough ways to start a fire than not have any method at all. As for the extra weight in your backpack. We don't think that you will notice a few extra grams.

Remember: Always exercise caution and practice safety when using fire outdoors.

Our wilderness experts are always practicing their skills for building a successful campfire using lots of different methods. We recommend learning as many different ways of creating fire as you possibly can. Once you have four or five really good methods in your fire making skills list you should then work hard at committing them to memory and practice them as many times as possible until they become second nature.

Our experts practice their fire making skills so much that some might say they are a bit of a fire bug but like our experts always tell us.....

"It's better to be safe than sorry and who cares if we pee in our bed for playing with fire, as long as you can keep the pee from getting cold, who cares!"
